Twenty-Six Days

Chamber Orchestra (Lead Cello) (2010)
20 mins

Although it was composed between June and September 2010, the sketches and harmonic material for this piece were generated during a 26 day bicycle journey I took with my partner Ruth in October 2009 from the top to the heel of Italy. The music has nothing to do with cycling or Italy, but in a somewhat pedantic way, at the end of every day’s cycling, I spent time ritually working on sketches for music alongside the gps data for that day’s journey.

This piece was jointly commissioned for Ensemble 10/10, the Contemporary Music Group of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society, and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
